Google Pixelbook Go: The Best of Both Worlds

Google has released a new laptop called the Google Pixelbook Go. This new laptop is more affordable than the original model, but it still has many good things about it.

It’s easy to take anywhere because of its small size, and it also does some cool things like track your sleep habits with Google Assistant.

We have read the Chromebook called the Google Pixelbook Go. It is really good, but it costs more than other Chromebooks. We will list them below for you to see how they are different.

Price and configurations

We tested the Google Pixelbook Go, which cost $849. It is equipped with an Intel Core i5 CPU, 8GB of RAM, and 128GB of storage. It is better than the other model that costs $649 because it has more memory (64GB) but less storage (128GB).

You can choose to get a computer with 16GB of RAM and a Core i7 processor. The price starts at $1,999 and you can get 8GB if you want. But the Not Pink colorway is not yet available.

Google has a new Chromebook called the Google Pixelbook Go that came out on October 17. Google doesn’t have any other new Chromebooks that they have made since then, and we hope they will come out with one soon.

Google Pixelbook Go design and build

This gadget weighs 1.06kg and it is 11.4in x 8.7in so it may fit into most carry-ons. It is good for students and people who work away from home because they use Google’s services most of the time.

The magnesium alloy body of this laptop has a matte finish with curved edges. Although the surface looks shiny at first, it easily picks up fingerprints.

The laptop also comes in different colors which you can choose from. We picked the ‘Just Black’ option, but Google offers this computer in its “Not Pink” finish, which is only available on the 8GB/128GB model.

Google Pixelbook Go: The Best of Both Worlds

The bottom of the Google Pixelbook Go is ribbed to make it easier to hold. I liked the design, but you might not. It feels good when you use it and is not hard when put on your lap. The Chromebook got too hot sometimes, but that didn’t affect how it worked at all.

The top and bottom of the screen have very big borders. They limit how much you can see on it. Google should think about taking these borders away in future versions of this phone so that people who are looking at the screen will have a better experience with what they are seeing.

The Pixelbook has a touchscreen. I didn’t find it very useful because the Chromebook can’t become a tablet. But if you like design-based applications or games, you might find this different.

The display is 10.4 inches with a 1080p webcam on it. It is good for video chats. The video is really good and the built-in microphone gives sharp sound quality.

If you like to talk on your phone, this could be a good option for you – the camera’s resolution is 2Mp and so it can take pictures as well as videos.

You only have two USB-C ports, as well as a headphone jack (this device uses USB-C charging). There are no USB-A or HDMI connections on this Chromebook. The bottom half of the Chromebook is narrow.

Google’s keyboard is really quiet. It has a low bounce-back rate, which means people can type without making much noise. The keyboard also has speakers built into the sides of it, so even if you have your laptop on a surface, people will still be able to hear what you are typing.

keyboard and touchpad

I was happy with the keyboard on the Google Pixelbook Go when I first tried it. That’s because my fingers had been typing on a shallower keyboard before that.

I used a MacBook Pro to report live from Google’s event where the Go was unveiled.

I tried out the Google Pixelbook Go on 10fastfingers.com‘s typing test. I got a score of 75 wpm (close to my average) with 97.9% accuracy. But the keys are not as deep as other keyboards, but they are tall enough for comfortable typing.

Google mentions these keys as “ultra hush”. I did not notice any difference in the noise level when I conducted my regular typing test. My colleague noticed that they were quieter when we compared them to the keyboard on the original Pixelbook.

If you are using the backlit keyboard on the Google Pixelbook Go, there is a key combo you should know about. Press Alt while toggling the brightness keys. When they are all up, they are bright enough.

I tested the Pixelbook’s touchpad during my time with it, and I observed that it delivered precise input identification. Websites were smoothly and swiftly scrolled, as well as window navigation gestures.

Ports

The Google Pixelbook Go has two USB-C ports on either side. Port is like a connection between two things. The size of the laptop is the same as a regular Chromebook and it has two USB Type-C ports on the right side.

The Acer Chromebook 15 and HP Chromebook 15 Plus have the same ports as the more expensive Pixelbook. They don’t have one USB-C port, but they do have two USB Type-A ports and a MicroSD reader.

The Asus Chromebook Flip C434 has two USB Type-A ports and a USB-C port too. However, it doesn’t have Thunderbolt 3.

Audio

Last week, I bought a laptop. It is small. When I turned it on, I heard Metallica’s “For Whom the Bell Tolls.” It was very disappointing. The vocals and bass were not as strong as they should have been and the drums sounded rough.

Specs and performance

We reviewed the Google Pixelbook Go. It came with an Intel Core i5 CPU, 8GB of RAM, and 128GB of storage. There are three more versions to choose from.

The least expensive Google Pixelbook Go has an Intel Core m3 CPU, 8GB of RAM, and 64 GB of storage. You could get more storage by upgrading to the Intel Core i5 model with 16GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage.

The top-of-the-line version is equipped with an Intel Core i7 CPU, 16GB of RAM, 256 GB hard drive, and a 4K display.

Google has a cloud that stores your files. You won’t need more space on your phone because you can save the files there.

It works fast, even when I have a lot of tabs open at the same time. It can’t do anything too tough, but I was able to finish basic editing on photos while other programs were running in the background without any problems.

The screen is nice. It can be used outside even in the sun, unlike other screens that are not bright enough. The colors are also nice. You can use it for streaming or photo editing because it’s great with colors and brightness.

But I think you should not buy it if you do not want to watch 4K videos because they cost too much and cannot be played on this screen.

Google claims that the 47Wh cell in the Google Pixelbook Go will last up to 12 hours. It almost lives up to that promise, lasting 10 hours and 53 minutes in our continuous video test. In real life, I was able to use it for a whole day without having to charge it.

The Google Pixelbook Go has an octa-core processor, 16GB of RAM, and 128GB or 256GB of storage. The microSD card reader lets you add more storage if you need it. It takes just 30 minutes to charge up to 28 percent. The battery lasts for a long time: outperforming other Chromebooks so far!

Battery life

The Google Pixelbook Go, with its larger battery, is the same as the original high-end Pixelbook. It has more endurance than most other models in this category. The Go lasted 9 hours and 31 minutes on a single charge, which is better than most other models in our test group.

Software

Setting up the Google Pixelbook Go is very easy. If you already have a Gmail account, it will only take you less than five minutes to set this Chromebook up.

All of my work tabs were ready and waiting for me when I got to my email, and the directions were simple to follow. Anyone would be able to get this Chromebook set up out of the box– even if they are not very good with technology.

The Google Pixelbook Go is powered by Chrome OS, a lightweight operating system that uses the browser to handle most of the activities. You can download apps from the Google Play Store on this device.

This is like you would do with an Android device. The appearance of this device is clean and user-friendly.

You can use Gmail, Google Docs, and YouTube on a web browser window. It is the same as Google Chrome. You can also do these things when you don’t have an internet connection.

There is a special computer called the Pixelbook that you can talk to it and it will do what you tell it to do.

You can also download Microsoft Word and other related apps from the Play Store if you don’t want to use Google’s products. But they’re not as good as the full versions of the programs.

Chrome OS is not as configurable or sophisticated as Windows 10 or macOS. But if you are happy to do all your work through the internet and Google’s programs are good for you, Chrome OS can be a great alternative to consider.

Value for money

People who buy Chromebooks usually do so because they want to save money. But if you want the best Chromebook, it will be more expensive than other devices of the same kind.

There are two different spec selections available, which cost as follows:

  • Intel Core i5 8GB RAM 128 GB storage, Full HD screen – £829/$849
  • Intel Core i5 16GB RAM 128 GB storage, Full HD screen – £949/$999
  • Intel Core i7 16GB RAM 256 GB storage, 4K screen – £1,329/$1399

The Google Pixelbook Go is now available at Google and Amazon in the United Kingdom. You can get it from Google in the US as well as from Amazon.

A Chromebook is a good laptop, but it’s worth noting that there are more expensive laptops. These are similar in price to the 2020 MacBook Air, which is a much more flexible machine.

The Asus Chromebook Flip C434TA has the same CPU and screen as the Google Pixelbook Go but is cheaper. Most other Chromebooks on our top ten list cost less than £600.

The Pixelbook deserves that higher price with its good battery life, easy operating system, and high-end look.

Overall, we suggest the two entry-level options since they provide the greatest value for your money.

Conclusion

If you are looking for a laptop that is simple to use, long-lasting, and well-designed, the Google Pixelbook Go is worth considering. It performs better than other laptops in many categories.

However, while the two cheaper options are worth considering, the more expensive ones might not be so easy to justify. You could buy a much more powerful laptop for that price. Chrome OS can save all your work on the cloud so you should not have any storage issues.

The Google Pixelbook Go, on the other hand, should not be overlooked if you’re shopping for a new Chromebook.
