Samsung Galaxy Book Pro 360: The laptop that is also a tablet

Samsung revealed the Galaxy Book Pro 360 2-in-1 at its event this year. This is a clamshell version of the tablet.

The 360 suffix comes with features that the standard Galaxy Book Pro does not have. It is a touchscreen notebook, but it also transforms into a tablet with an S-Pen. It can connect to 5G networks, and this is something the regular Galaxy Book Pro cannot do.

The Pro 360 is a convertible laptop with a 360-degree hinge and a 13.3in 5G display, which costs $1,124 (to begin). Of course, the Pro 360’s starting price of $1,124 is still quite expensive. I spent some time with the Samsung Galaxy Book Pro 360 to see whether it’s worth it.

The Samsung Galaxy Book Pro 360 computer is wonderful. It has a cover and is perfect. There’s nothing wrong with it.

The Acer Pro 360 is really good. It weighs less than a kilogram and has a thickness of 11.5mm. I looked at the Core i7-powered Mystic Navy model with 512GB storage on offer at Acer’s website.

A minimal bezel means you can see the screen all the way across. It looks like it can do work, web browsing, and video viewing. We will go into more detail about the screen later.

The Samsung Galaxy Book Pro 360 offers military-grade protection. This means it is resistant to rain, low temperatures, and shock. I did not test this for myself, but it’s reassuring to know that extra safety exists if your bag or backpack is jostled while you’re cycling.

Samsung has a 12-month warranty on its tablets. For the 5G versions, they have 24-month warranties.

Keyboard & Trackpad

The Galaxy Book Pro 360 comes with a keyboard that is backlit. You can use the number keys on it instead of the top row of numbers. Sometimes, the space is too small for your fingers to type on quickly. But after you use it for a few days, you will be used to it.

  • Fingerprint reader
  • Backlit full-size keyboard

The top right side of the keyboard has a fingerprint sensor that is also the power button. It recognized me and my fingerprints, and it only needed one time to do so.

The keyboard is made of a material that is not as smooth as plastic or rubber, but it feels nice and has good feedback.

The keys are close together and shallow, but they don’t make a lot of noise if you type hard. I like the sound of typing on this keyboard because it reminds me of hitting my hand with something (such as a ruler).

The Pro 360 is so light that I could type on my lap with it. This is because it does not have any moving parts, and it will stay in the same spot when you put it down.

It was hard to use on a desk because the Pro 360 slid around and did not stay in one place while I typed.

The Samsung Pro 360 is a small, but a sturdy camera with rubber on the bottom. It has two extra feet that you might want to take off when you get it out of the box. The design is for people who are on the go, like in buses or trains or planes or something.

The keyboard has other useful things too, like backlighting. And you can choose what kind of performance you want. You can have high performance, optimized performance, or limited performance with options to turn off the fan.

The big trackpad takes up a third of the wrist area. This is nice but I had to extend my arm more than I would have while working at a table. Smartwatch wearers may find this unpleasant. It’s not as much of an issue if you are using the Pro 360 on your lap.

Connectivity & Audio

The Pro 360’s form is maintained because it has a limited number of ports. It has 3 USB-C inputs, one for Thunderbolt 4. You can charge the laptop with any of these methods. There is also a MicroSD card slot and a 3.5mm headphone/microphone jack.

  • 3x USB-C ports
  • 1x MicroSD card slot
  • 1x 3.5mm headphone/microphone jack
  • AKG speakers

The Pro 360 has Bluetooth 5.1 and Wi-Fi 6, meaning you don’t need to use any wires to connect your headphones or speaker. If you want to future-proof your purchase, you can get the 13-in model of the Galaxy Book Pro 360.

This way you will be ready for 5G laptops when they come around! But because the 13in the model is more expensive than other models, it shouldn’t be your main incentive for buying this laptop.

This device comes with AKG speakers, which offer crisp sound. The bass and middle tones are particularly strong and lush, but the trebles may get thin when you listen to high volumes. If you want this device to be a media streamer, then the sound will be smooth and resonant.

S-Pen support

The Pro 360 has a bright screen. But it also has a stylus pen. The Pro 360 is like the Flex 2 because you can attach the S-Pen to the back of it, but not like the Galaxy Book Pro 360 because that one does not have a stylus pen.

The Flex 2’s security may be more secure, but Samsung’s quick and fun approach is also a good choice. Samsung puts the S-Pen in a magnetic spot so it will always be available.

When you use the stylus on the tablet, there is no delay. It can be used for drawing, sketching, and painting. Low latency means that it feels like actually using a pen or paintbrush on paper.

Acute pressure sensitivity makes it feel like you are pressing hard or lightly when drawing or painting. This is good because the tablet’s brightness allows you to see what you are doing more easily.

The screen of the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 is not scratched by the S-Pen. When the display is off, you’ll need to clean up any marks that are on it from sketches or notes with an eraser.

Screen

The Galaxy Book Pro 360 is a little expensive. It has a screen that does not compare to other phones. The resolution of the display is only 1920 x 1080 pixels. It also does not have a big screen like other laptops that are more expensive.

  • 15.6in Full HD
  • Super AMOLED
  • Stylus support

Let’s start with resolution. 1920 x 1080 (FHD) is not the best, and most expensive laptops offer higher-resolution displays. The £749 Huawei Matebook 14 (2020) – currently the best laptop in our book – has a 2160 x 1440 IPS display.

There is no US availability for this laptop, but the MacBook Air Retina Display has a 2560 x 1600 resolution for as little as £999/$999.

The Samsung Galaxy Book Pro 360’s screen is dimmer than other Galaxy devices. In our testing, the screen was at maximum brightness when it was 284.4nits. But when the lighting is bad, it may reach up to 350nits!

The Pro 360 is not as good as the other laptops on the market. The Huawei Matebook 14 (2020) is brighter than the Pro 360 with 382 nits, and our top pick for best laptops – HP Envy 13 (2020) – has a maximum brightness of 423 nits.

The Pro 360 has a display that is not all bad. If the Pro 360 is telling the truth, then it’s really intense. Colors pop off of the screen and make up for how low resolution it has. In reality, high-definition videos may be better because of the vivid colors and contrast they have.

In our tests, the device got a lot of colors. It was able to get 100% of the sRGB colors, 97% of Adobe RGB colors, and 100% of DCI-P3 colors.

So it is well suited for creative work that needs color accuracy – for example, video or photo editing or design. Games should also look good with this device since it can produce a lot of different colors.

Specs & Performance

This laptop has a new Intel Core. You need an 11th Gen Intel Core CPU, so this laptop meets the group. This laptop should last 9 hours on a Full HD display and start up in less than a second. The Pro 360 also has Thunderbolt 4 connectivity.

  • Up to 16GB RAM/512GB SSD storage
  • Intel Evo Core i7
  • Intel Iris Xe graphics
  • Available with Windows 10 or 11 Home

The Samsung Galaxy Book Pro 360 is one of their most efficient notebooks. If you are using a lot of programs, the fan may make noise. But you have the option to turn it off. It will be less noisy and will not use as much battery if you turn it off.

The Galaxy Pro 360 did well in our tests. It was only beat by the Huawei MateBook 14 (2020). The Pro 360 can do a lot of things at the same time. I could have lots of apps and windows open, and it would not have problems.

The Pro 360 also has good scores for gaming. The 3D Mark Night Raid score is 16,568, which is very good. It’s the only laptop to achieve this score that isn’t for games.

Other laptops to achieve this score are Samsung Galaxy Book Pro 360 (16,832), Microsoft Surface Laptop 4 (16,377), and Asus ZenBook Duo (17,618).

The Pro 360 does not provide a discrete graphics card. There is an integrated Iris Xe GPU instead. Strangely, the Pro 360 has this, since laptops under $1000 have Nvidia MX350s in them.

The Huawei Matebook 14 (8th gen), HP Envy 13 (8th gen), and Acer Swift 5 (2021) all have it.

If you can’t afford a discrete GPU, you can’t play AAA games. But if your budget is smaller, then modest games should be okay.

Battery Life

In our battery life test, the Samsung Galaxy Book Pro 360 lasted 16 hours and 13 minutes. It passed the competition, including the Huawei MateBook 14 and HP Envy 13. You can see a chart of this below.

  • 68Wh battery
  • 65W charger
  • USB Type-C

While the Galaxy Book Flex 2’s battery didn’t last nearly 20 hours, it’s worth noting that the Flex 2 has a larger battery at 69.7Wh in any case.

We didn’t do normal things with our laptop when we tested it. I streamed music and videos on Spotify and watched YouTube clips. I was able to use the laptop for a full day because I plugged in when needed.

I found that the Pro 360 charged in less than 30 minutes, which is good. It will keep you going for a few hours if you need it and it runs out of power.

If you need to charge your phone while working, make sure you are near a power source or have a power bank with Power Delivery.

Price & Availability

The Galaxy Pro 360 is a very expensive phone. You can buy it with a different internet connection, screen size, and processor speed. If you don’t want to upgrade for some time, then you should get this phone.

The top-tier model with a Core i7 CPU, 16GB RAM, and 512GB SSD costs £1,499/US$1499.99 in the United Kingdom and $1,399.99 in the United States. The US price is cheaper because you get twice as much storage at that price.

In the US, you can get a Core i7 and AMD Ryzen 7 in Salesforce. In the UK, a Pro 360 with a Core i5-1135G7 processor and 8GB of RAM costs 1,124.10 pounds.

If you want 5G to work, the 13-inch display is your only option. The UK’s version comes with a CPU, memory, and storage. We are not sure if the 5G version will be available in the United States at this time.

Conclusion

The Samsung Galaxy Book Pro 360 is a good computer. It’s fast and dependable. Plus, it has a design that makes it light.

The screen could be brighter. But you will not notice because the colors are so bright. If you think that the 1920 x 1080 resolution is too much, then you should look for another place that has different specs.

The Pro 360 is a laptop with a hinge that can turn into a tablet. If you buy it, there will be an extra fee of about $200 over the regular Galaxy Pro.

It can be hard to understand why you would spend over a thousand dollars for S-Pen support when it is not a digital artist. It is also difficult to buy the Pro 360 just because it has 5G connectivity when the infrastructure is not yet very wide.

If you’re a person who works with several creative applications and frequently travels, the Galaxy Pro 360 is a perfect choice. You just need to save up for it now.
