Acer Swift 3: Full Reviews for everyone

The Acer Swift 3 is a thin, sleek, silver laptop that will help college-bound students go to the next level in their education and life.

The Acer Swift 3 laptop is lighter and smaller than the notebook I used to have in my Trapper Keeper in the 1980s. The computer has a light and thin design. It also has an 11th Gen Intel Core i7 CPU, 16GB of RAM, and 512GB of storage.

The Swift 3 has a 14-inch display with an IPS display. It looks like it would make me want to go back in time and buy stocks.

Acer Swift 3 Display

The Swift 3’s 1920 x 1080 full HD display does not give the best picture, but it is clear. I watched the trailer of A Quiet Place 2 and as Emily Blunt navigated through the wilderness in the thriller, I could see her pores and other details on her face.

This is a good display for people who are not picky. You can see little things on it. They are not as bad as other displays where they are really bad.

The colors on the Acer Swift 3 screen are good. There is nothing to complain about. Once I looked at a red stripe on an abandoned railroad train and the bright yellow coming from a wooden building that was on fire in the trailer. But in everyday scenes, the colors were not terrible and did not attract attention.

In our lab, the Acer Swift 3’s screen showed a 66% brightness in the sRGB range. This is less than the category average of 92%. The Lenovo IdeaPad 730S also smoked the Swift 3 on our colorimeter. But with only a 61% brightness of the sRGB range, it lost to its competitor Asus VivoBook 15.

The Acer Swift 3 had a low brightness score of 224 nits. This is less than the average brightness of 279 nits. The Lenovo IdeaPad 730S and the Asus VivoBook 15 both had higher scores of 310 nits and 252 nits, respectively.

Audio

Doja Cat sounded more like Doja Kitty on the Acer Swift 3. The sound of the Swift 3 was not bad for me. I put my phone to the maximum volume and played music from Doja Cat’s “Say So.” The lower dual speakers had trouble filling the room, but that is okay for me because I am just looking for a small dance break with Spotify.

Despite the hollow sound, it seemed to come from all around you. I couldn’t tell where the speakers were if you closed your eyes and listened to the music. The sound was a bit thin – there wasn’t as much as on more expensive speakers.

Graphics

Our test laptop’s integrated graphics scored 1,635 on the 3DMark FireStrike benchmark. It also beat the regular laptop’s score of 2,013 points. At 44 frames per second, Dirt 3 ran smoother on the Acer Swift 3 than on a VivoBook S15 which only had a score of 31 fps.

But the category average and Lenovo IdeaPad 730S smoked the Acer Swift 3 at 57 fps and 60 fps respectively. The Swift 3 will not be good for intensive games, but it should be able to handle less demanding titles, photo editing, and video editing.

Acer Swift 3 design

If laptops were at parties, the Acer Swift 3 would be the chic one. It is refined and discreet. The Acer Swift 3 laptop doesn’t want to stand out but it does want you to know that it is refined and relaxed.

The sides are tapered at the back where you can find your favorite ports. They are thicker towards the back and gradually become thinner in front of the laptop.

The Acer Swift 3 has a shiny lid with a silver logo in the center. When you open the lid, you will see that it says “Swift” over the hinge. The keyboard is black and white and there is a fingerprint scanner shaped like a rectangle.

The Acer Swift 3 has a lot of gates. Maybe it is too generous. You can charge your laptop by plugging in the USB Type-C port or with an AC adapter. The Swift 5 also has a USB Type-C port, but on the left side, you can find a DC-in connection and an HDMI port, too. You can use this to transfer data and connect to multiple 4K displays that support DisplayPort (or boats).

On the right-hand side, you will find a headphone/mic jack. There is also a USB 2.0 Type-A port and a Kensington lock. You can’t use the Micro-SD card slot, but you can get an external reader for it.

Keyboard and TouchPad

The Swift 3’s backlit keyboard is comfortable to type on. It feels good and the keys are clicky. The keyboard is quiet, so it does not disturb other people when typing at work.

Under the arrow keys, you can find a fingerprint reader for another way to access your laptop. The touchpad is in the middle of the keyboard and it responds well to Windows 10 gestures.

Acer Swift 3 Review: Performance

I have 27 tabs open on my computer. I have 3 that are playing YouTube videos. The 10th Gen Intel Core i5-1035G1U processor of the Acer Swift 3 helped me a lot.

I am using Google Docs and I typed a lot without my computer slowing down. When I had 20 Chrome tabs the fans kicked in, but it was barely audible (like a whisper). If you always have too many tabs open on your computer, don’t worry about it. The Acer Swift 3 can handle your browser habits!

A benchmark is a test that tells how good something is at doing something. The Acer Swift 3 scored better than average on this benchmark and it also scored higher than the IdeaPad 730S, but not as high as the VivoBook S15.

This Acer machine was slow. The Acer Swift 3 took 16 seconds to copy 4.97 GB of files, which is 311 MBps. This is slower than the Lenovo IdeaPad 730S (256 GB SSD, 552 MBps) and Asus VivoBook S15 (512GB SSD, 452MBps).

This Acer machine has an advantage over those other two laptops because it took less time to copy those files and it copied them at a higher speed than its competitors.

Acer Swift 3 Review: Battery Life

The Acer Swift 3 lasted a long time. It lasted for 7 hours and 31 minutes on our battery test. This is better than most laptops. Other laptops, like the Lenovo IdeaPad 730S, only last for 7 hours and 2 minutes on our battery test.

The Acer Swift 3 also lasts longer than the Asus VivoBook S15 lasts for 6 hours and 5 minutes on our battery test.

Heat

Acer Swift 3 Review

The Acer Swift 3 is great for playing videos. Our heat test showed that the video stayed cool even when it was on for 15 minutes. This means that the temperature will stay comfortable, even when you are using it for a long time.

Even the hottest part of the computer, where F8 is located, stayed below our 95-degree comfort threshold at 89 degrees Fahrenheit.

The touchpad (81 degrees), the center of the keyboard (86 degrees), and the bottom (92 degrees) also stayed cool during our heat test.

Price and Configuration Options

Acer sells a lot of different Swift 3s. The cheapest one (which is $499) has an AMD Ryzen 5 3500U processor, 4GB RAM, and an AMD Radeon Vega 8 GPU. The one I reviewed costs more ($699).

The ultrabook can have a 10th-generation Intel Core i5-1035G1 processor. It has the same amount of RAM as the other model. The SSD is also the same size, but it does not have an integrated graphics card. You can configure it up to $799.

Acer Swift 3 Review: Conclusion

The Acer Swift 3 is a laptop that you can rely on. The laptop is reliable and will never stand out in the crowd. It has a Core i5 processor and integrated GPU, so it can do lots of work. The laptop can handle lots of things like productivity and multimedia tasks.

Acer knows that people like to walk and work with computers. That is why they make a computer you can take with you. It costs $699, but the computer has some problems.

You should think about the slower SSD, less than 8 hours of battery life, and mediocre display before buying this laptop. For better performance and a more vivid display, you should buy the $749 Asus VivoBook S15. But if you want a reliable multitasker, you can’t go wrong with the Acer Swift 3.
